I watched this a couple of days ago. I initially did not like this anime because the beginning of the story was infuriating.
See what happened was Igarashi Ganta, the lead character, was taking his breakfast before class and planning a trip with his friends, you know usual everyday highschool setup. Anyway, suddenly out of nowhere, the character they call “The Red Man”, which later on we know as Wretched Egg kills everybody and leaves Ganta injured yet alive with a red gem on his chest. Then legal procedures start and they take Ganta as a suspect. He was then found guilty by the jury with similar angry faces (I don’t know, they just looked really angry). And I was really feeling sorry for this kid in the first and second episode because what happened to him was unjust. And this was the point where I paused watching.
SPOILER ALERT: Later we find out that the lawyer who offered him help is actually the promoter of Deadman Wonderland. Also I thought it was lousy in his part to take this into his hands. Couldn’t he get an actual lawyer rather than do the dirty work himself? Wouldn’t that be seen somehow a conflict of interest when he defended Ganta since he is associated in a privately-owned prison?
But I gave it another chance and watched it again. In the next episode, Ganta is taken in as a prisoner of Deadman Wonderland. A theme park and prison rolled into one. Seriously, who would go to a place like this?
